Harry Chase, MLA
Harry B. Chase was elected to his first term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for the constituency of Calgary-Varsity on November 22, 2004.
Mr. Chase earned his Bachelor of Education, majoring in French and art, from the University of Calgary in 1971. He then went on to become a teacher, teaching primarily at the junior high level for 34 years. During that time, Mr. Chase served as the Council of Schools’ representative for over 20 years. He was also a member of the Local 38 branch of the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA), serving on the economic policy committee/ teacher welfare branch from 1988 to 1998. He was awarded his lifetime membership with the ATA in 2003.
In addition to school-related coaching of soccer, wrestling and gymnastics and student council/leadership sponsorship activities, Mr. Chase also coached community soccer for several years. He has canvassed for a number of charitable organizations and has been director of the Calgary-Foothills and Calgary-Varsity Liberal Constituency Associations since 1997. From September 2003 to September 2004, Mr. Chase served as the Calgary director of Friends of Medicare and was the Alberta chair of the organization from January 2004 to September 2004.
Mr. Chase enjoys spending time with his wife, Heather, their daughter Christina, and the rest of their extended family, especially their grandsons, Kiran and Rohan. During the spring and summers of 2002, 2003 and 2004, he and his wife, Heather, worked as park attendants in Kananaskis Country gaining an environmental awareness of the importance of the promotion, preservation and expansion of Parks and Protected Areas.
Mr. Chase also enjoys drawing, wood carving, cross-country running, exercising, rowing, kayaking, camping and traveling.
